Nozawa Onsen Dosojin Fire Festival - Nagano

Dosojin are the gods worshiped since ancient times for the prayer for healthy children and that act the guardians of children. The Nozawa Onsen Dosojin Festival that worships the dosojin is a large fire festival for men who are the “unlucky” yakudoshi ages of 42, 41, 40, and 25 years old. The festival prays for peace, good match-making, healthy children, and the driving out of evil spirits. The Nozawa Onsen’s Dosojin Fire Festival is famous for its grand scale and is one of the three great fire festivals in Japan that has been designated as an important intangible cultural property of Japan.
