Tomioka Hachiman Shrine Festival (Fukagawa Hachiman Festival) - Tokyo

The Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine Festival was held mainly around August 15th, and is one of the three great Edo festivals. While shouting “Washoi Washoi” in what is known as the mizukake water splashing festival, onlookers and participants come together as they splash festival participants with purifying water. In particular, once every three years, the imperial carriage of Hachimangu Shrine is paraded along with a procession of 50 mikoshi shrines carried by parishioners.
