Nanokado Hadaka-mairi - Fukushima

This festival, which has been passed down by generations for several thousand years, is held at the hour of the ox (20:30) on the 7th day of the new year. When the temple bell rings out, it is the signal for men in loincloths to charge towards the Kikkodo Hall (the main hall) of Fukuman Kokuzo Bosatsu Enzoji Temple. It is said that purifying oneself with a chozubachi (wash basin), and battling rigorously to scramble up the large temple gong rope in the hall will bring sound health, wish fulfillment and good fortune all year long.
