Sendai Tanabata Festival - Miyagi

Sendai Tanabata Festival is a special feature of summer woven together by the wind and Japanese paper strips decorating bamboo trees. More than 3,000 ornaments on bamboo trees with unique features such as fukinagashi paper streamers and hanging items form arches throughout the city. You will be amazed at how gorgeous these ornaments are, but the fukinagashi streamers decorating each district showing off the spirit of local residents are also a must-see. The Sendai Tanabata Festival Plaza is set up at the Sendai Citizens Square where you can enjoy spectacular stage performances and events. The Sendai Tanabata Fireworks Festival is held on the eve of Tanabata (August 6), when about 16,000 fireworks are launched every year.
